Hey JiaQi!

It's been awhile since you last visited Singapore! I am really glad that you decided to visit Singapore this vacation. During this summer, there are so many attractions that I would want to introduction to you, but sadly there are time constraint during your visit! Out of the wonderful list of attractions on found on Trip Advisor, I have chosen to recommend you on visiting the number 1 cultural attraction, Singapore Botanic Garden!!

I took my time off the last weekend and made a trip to Singapore Botanic Garden together with my friend. We had a pleasant time there and it felt like we had escaped from our busy lifestyle as a student. It is definitely worth the visit.

Singapore Botanic Gardens opens from 5am to 12midnight daily and good news, it is free admission for everyone! It has long opening hour so you do not need to worry about having not enough time exploring the garden.
Furthermore, Singapore Botanic Garden is actually very accessible, now there is even a new SMRT station called Botanic Garden on the circle line. This new station will directly bring you to Singapore Botanic Garden, which is just located outside the station. How convenience can it get?

How will you classify the attraction according to the visitor market?
Singapore Botanic garden is a place for both the young to the old, tourists to locals and families to individuals.

People from the older generation and runners can be seen jogging and exercising in the garden, while there are families and married couples having picnic in the garden. The symphony stage around the palm valley is one of the most popular picnic spot in the botanic garden, they get to enjoy performance held on the symphony stage while admiring the amazing scenery.

Not only targeting on the locals, tourists with their families would come for pinic or to enjoy the nature. To add on, tourists also came to the botanic garden for jogging and exercising.

Children can be seen enjoying themselves in the Jacob Ballas Children's garden. It is a learning garden with interactive exhibits that teaches them more about nature. There are also children conducting sport activities in the plain field of botanic garden. The kids will definitely love all that space to run around safely.

Apart from children, teenagers also visit Singapore Botanic Garden! Teenage couples would take a slow romantic stroll in the garden, while friends would have picnic gathering together.
All of the visitors in Singapore Botanic Garden are day visitors as there are no accommodation to allow visitors to stay over.

Families would usually drive there as there are plenty of carpark slots in the garden while some families would take the public transport. Tourist usually come through taxi as they might not be very familiar with Singapore's public transport.
Most of the visitors would take the public transport as Singapore Botanic Garden is very accessible through buses and MRT.

Due to Singapore's humid weather, visitors usually come during the morning or late afternoon as the weather would be more appealing.

Visitors in Singapore Botanic Garden are mostly the nature, plants and cultural lovers. There are also some visitors that are here to maintain a healthy lifestyle as they are exercising and jogging.

I got a chance to get up-close with the wildlife near the Eco Lake, it was really quite an experience to me.

Finally, the highlight is the pair of white swan in the Swan Lake. They glide gracefully over the lovely lake making it a spectacular sight.

Historic Significance

Singapore botanic garden has a history all the way back to 1859 with the colonial government. There are many heritage tress located in the garden. The heritage trees are mature tree which takes decades or some more than hundreds of years for these trees to mature gracefully in our landscape.
As Singapore progresses, more and more mature trees are destroyed to make way for new development.
Singapore Botanic Garden is also the oldest national park in Singapore that has been standing for a long time.

Enjoyment

Apart from visiting the garden alone, you can call some friends over for a picnic date at the botanic garden!
It is a good place to gather and catch up with your friends while you guys can even play games such as frisbees in the plain field.

The augmented product of the garden would be the weather, accessibility, carparks, brochures of Singapore Botanic Garden, and souvenir shop.

I benefited so much when i visited the garden, I get to know more about the different species of plants and at the same time relax and enjoy myself amidst nature. There are so many visually pleasing plants, flowers and lake in the garden which really amazed me.

Describe the unique nature of the attraction as a service product, in the context of your selected attraction. What challenges does this pose for the attraction?

There are about 3 areas in Singapore Botanic Garden with visitors service counters, with the main visitor centre located at the heart of the garden.

The staff in botanic garden are involved in producing and delivering the product where they would deliver excellent customer service to the visitors at the information counters.
The services provided at the visitor centre is really helpful, they will patiently guide me on where i should visit and what special attractions i should visit in that area.

The restaurants and cafes have service staff that serve the customers and also taking the food orders. The staff in the restaurant and cafes have to be involve to deliver the product to the customers.

The staff in the souvenir shop also attended to my query in order to promote the souvenir. The staff actually explained how the product came about to deliver the product information to me. The product ranges from flower accessories to flower tea leaves.

The visitors of Singapore Botanic garden is involve in the production process. This is because without visitors, the garden would not even be opened. Singapore government would have long demolish the garden if there is no visitors to the garden.
The customers of the garden needs to be present to enjoy the garden or else the production process would not have taken place.

The service product in Singapore Botanic is not standardized because of the different staff that serve the customers. Different staff will have different attitudes towards the customers, therefore the service is not standardized.
Furthermore, it is also not standardized because of the constantly changing events and workshops. For example, there are 4 different events held in the month of may one of them is Race Against Time – Science behind a Botanic Garden Tour on the 25th May.
Their events and workshops are constantly changing to meet the needs of the different markets.

The product in Singapore Botanic Garden (Workshops) is also perishable as there is no refund if the customers missed the date for the workshop. The paid workshop will 'perish' as it is not possible to conduct another workshop on another time.
The product is also perishable as it would result in loss of revenue of no one attend the workshop conducted.

Lastly, the surrounding of the service delivery process are a feature of the service. The atmosphere around the information counters and the restaurants is among the beautiful lush green environment which makes it really pleasing. The restaurant is located within the nature itself which makes the surrounding of the service a feature of botanic garden.

However, there are also difficulties faced by Singapore Botanic Garden as an service product.

The staff at the service counter might not have served the visitors with pleasure and have seemed not willing to answer their enquires. The staff's attitude makes a huge difference in the way the product is delivered, which will affect the visitors.

Since the service product in the garden is not standardized, one of the problem is that the service is viewed differently from differently people. Different people might have different perception of the service product received.  For example, some visitors might have enjoy the services at the restaurant while some might not have enjoyed it even though they were served by the same staff and the same attitude of the staff.

The loss in workshops revenue is also one of the difficulty as it is perishable. Singapore Botanic Garden must ensure that the workshops is well promoted and ensure that the revenue loss is minimised as it is perishable.

Share with your friend why you think the attraction has been highly ranked on Trip Advisor.

I was actually very curious why was the Singapore Botanic Garden so highly ranked on Trip Advisor, until i made a trip to the garden and realized why it was so highly ranked.

Singapore Botanic Garden is successful in catering to the different stages of the family life cycle and also the different needs of different people.
For example, there is children play area in the garden to cater to the needs of children. There is also proper track way to cater to the runners and joggers in the garden and also big plain field to allow families to have gathering together.

Furthermore, Singapore Botanic Garden is also wheelchair friendly. There are many wheelchair
users visiting the garden and the area is actually quite comfortable for them to move about. Most of the areas are sloped and there is permanent ramps to ensure convenience for wheelchair users.

The workshops offered also caters to both the adult and the children. There are programmes such as storytelling and gardening programmes offered for children while there are programmes such as Bonsai growing and flower arrangement for adult. This makes Singapore Botanic Garden to meet the needs of the different market.

You must wondering what is just so unique about Singapore Botanic Garden that people would want to visit.

Singapore Botanic Garden has different types of garden such as the national orchid garden, ginger garden, fragrant garden, evolution garden, eco garden, healing garden and the rainforest.
It is a all in one garden where you see up to hundreds and thousands of different types of plant.
The National orchid park that is located within Singapore Botanic Garden is lauded as the world’s largest orchid display. You can get to see Singapore's national flower -- Miss Vanda 'Miss Joaquim', that couldn't be seen else where.

To add on, Singapore Botanic Garden is a natural attraction with history way back up to 1859. It is Singapore's oldest national park and it was not built with the intention of becoming an attraction.

As Singapore progresses, Gardens by the Bay became the garden competition. However, Singapore Botanic garden remain unique as it is a natural garden and covering a large area in Singapore with 3 lakes within the garden.

Singapore Botanic Garden has been quite successful in promoting itself. There is an official webpage that promote its attractions within the garden, and also not forgetting they have a Facebook page where they will post updates to keep their visitors updated on their latest news.

The National Orchid park located inside Singapore Botanic Garden is also one of the promotional tool to promote the garden.
Singapore Botanic Garden would be the secondary attraction that they would visit if their intention is to visit the National Orchid Park (Primary attraction).

Singapore Botanic Garden has won various awards along the years, showing that it has indeed been successful in promoting itself. In year 2012, Singapore Botanic Gardens has been awarded the inaugural International Garden Tourism - Garden of the Year Award by the Canadian Garden Tourism Council.

Comment on the impact the attraction has on Singapore.

Singapore Botanic Garden has impacted Singapore in terms of economic, environment and socio-cultural.

Economic Impact

Since the botanic garden is not gated, except the national orchid garden, it is unable to generate revenue for Singapore's economy. To add on, there is also operating and maintenance cost for running the garden.

Singapore's government might have to pump in money to keep the garden running as it is a national heritage and may be reliant on government grant.

However, Singapore Botanic Garden creates job for people, as staff are needed to maintain the garden, in the ticketing area, and also in the souveinr shop.

Singapore Botanic Garden can also attract nature and cultural lover to visit Singapore, it will increase the number of tourism arrival in Singapore and also boost Singapore's economy as they spent their money in Singapore.

Environmental Impact

Located in the middle of the hectic city, the garden will beautify the the city environment in Singapore. It will also showcase Singapore as a green city.

The garden is also a nature heritage park, which will help in the conservation of the plants and heritage trees in the garden, giving a better boost to the environment in Singapore.

Impact of visitors on the attraction:
Since the garden is a natural attraction, there are many concerns on the impacts the visitors would have on the attraction.
The visitors would destroy the natural habitats of the wildlife living in the garden.
There would also be land and water pollution as visitors would litter, leaving unwanted trash in the garden causing pollution to the garden.

When i saw taking a stroll along the swan lake, there were many visitors feeding the fishes and other wildlife in the lake despite the signage of no feeding.

The visitors management of Singapore Botanic Garden would therefore need to minimize the negative impact visitors have on the garden environment.

When the number of visitors to Singapore Botanic Garden increase, it might cause more traffic congestionif more visitors drive themselves to the attraction. This will affect the other resident and citizen that live nearby or those that are travelling to other nearby city attaction.

Socio-Cultural Impact

The large visitor crowds can ruin the garden's nature atmosphere and the sense of spaces and peace as the crowd gets noisy and annoying to the other visitors.

As more visitors arrive in the garden, it may affect the quality of experience as it loses its gentle peaceful atmosphere of a nature garden.

However, on the bright side, it will create social harmony as people bond together with each other in the garden or during the workshops or event held.
It can also be a new form of leisure to the citizens and the residents.

To wrap up, i really enjoyed my time in Singapore Botanic Garden and i really hope you can come and enjoy it yourself too! Take a day off and escape from all those hustle and bustle while enjoying yourself in the nature!
